Hello Grade 5s! I am so proud of the work you have done this year on decimals and fractions. Today after our math talk, you will have an opportunity to work through a number of challenging problems that involve decimals. I want you to do this at your own pace, and I want to work with all of you. For those reasons, I have attached the notebook file below. Please download it to your group's iPad and solve the problems in your math book. If you get stuck, ask each other first, then ask me. I'll be glad to support! Mr. MacKenzie

Hey there! Use the iPads and download the file below. Work through the slides, as we did in class. Where are your hold-ups? What is sticking? What is not? When you are done, upload the SMART notebook file to your google drive. Here is the file:
Hey Y'all, We've been looking at sugar intake in grams - I've attached a document to this that will give you some background information about sugar for your visual journal page. When you check this out, think about what is the most important information to include.
Grab this file below on an iPad with Smart Notebook Viewer, or use it on your computer while you solve math. It's also a great study tool!
What makes a healthy breakfast? We've started examining the food guide that is put out by the government of Canada. We've also looked at McDonalds and created a breakfast that we'd love to eat every day for a week (or a month!). Looking only at calories, I think we were all surprised to see how many calories we'd consume! Today, we will look at muscles... How do we help them grow? How do we prevent them from withering? Proteins! If you take your weight and divide in 2, you get (roughly!) the amount of protein you need to eat in a day. Think privately about your magic number... A & W has plenty of options. As you click around and build your breakfast, keep in mind that magical protein number described above. Wendy's sells itself as being a healthy option. Is that true? What separates it from others?
Bored? Hanging out inside on a rainy day? Feel the need to practice some math? In class we have been playing Multiples War. For this, one card is flipped over. Whoever multiplies by the chosen factor wins the card. For example, you may choose to practice multiples of 9. If a 7 is flipped, the first person to say 63 gets the card. In the case of a tie, the card stays in the pile and the next card is flipped. Whoever has the most cards at the end is the winner. Hey Everyone,
As we begin our exploration about healthy eating and active lifestyles, we're going to explore this page. What matters to you as a 9 or 10 year old child? How does math connect to this concept? We have so many Metro Newspapers! ... And we're getting 15 more each day! Now that you've gone through the design thinking process, it's important to become more detailed and to post them on IRIS for reflection. Check them out!
